André is responsible for the overall management of the company, dividing his time between administrative and operational tasks, client management, co-formulation of strategy, business development and marketing, and providing dedicated support to customers.

André has spent over twenty four years working in the ICT industry in various analyst and consulting roles. Over these years André has travelled and undertaken ICT projects in twenty two countries spanning Africa and the Middle East.

Over these years, André has undertaken a wide variety of projects, including supply-side and demand-side research, market analysis and modelling, benchmark studies, forecast analysis, competitor and competitive landscape analysis, strategy analysis and development, business plan development, due diligence, policy development and arbitration expert witness appearances.

Over his career, André has worked for Unilever, ATC, BMI-Technology Group and Africa Analysis.

Dobek Pater

Dobek is responsible for client management, co-formulation of strategy, business development and marketing, and work on projects.

Dobek’s career of some twenty years in the ICT sector has exposed him to a wide variety of projects, including supply-side and demand-side research, retail and wholesale market research and analysis, competitive market landscape analysis, market modelling and forecasting, strategy analysis and development, business plan development, due diligence, and arbitration expert witness appearances. He has undertaken in-country projects in over twenty countries in Africa and analysed various aspects of all African markets.

Dobek is frequently quoted in the local and international media, and appears regularly on TV and radio shows. He also chairs and presents every year at major industry conferences held in Africa.

When not talking, breathing, reading and dreaming telecoms, Dobek likes to be taken for walks by his dogs, participate in outdoor sport activities, and do community work.

Ofentse has worked in the Telecoms sector for over 11 years, driving a multitude of projects, conducting extensive research and engaging with regulatory bodies, government departments, and telecoms operators.

His telecoms market knowledge is highly rated in the industry and he has been approached by the likes of IT Web, FTTH Council, Brainstorm Magazine, Sunday Times, to name but a few, to give expert advice and insights on data pricing.  He is a telecoms analyst first and foremost, and complementary to that a Pricing Analyst.

In his role as Director: Pricing Research, Ofentse is responsible for managing the research and analysis of products and services pricing within the ICT sector and advising clients on pricing trends and developments.  He oversees the ongoing development of the various pricing databases (including Broadband pricing databases) that forms the foundation on which he provides valuable insights regarding price movements in the market.

Other areas of focus include tracking the FTTx market. He also monitors Consumer Retail, Business and Regulatory developments in the South African telecoms market. Ofentse holds a BCom Honours in Business Management.

Ofentse is a family man and in his spare time he enjoys reading, traveling and motivating young people.

Ian Grant

Ian is an experienced Senior Telecommunications Analyst, award-winning journalist and publisher. He has been covering the telecommunications and IT markets in Europe and Africa for nearly 40 years.

Ian has a particular affinity for communications applications. He has specialised in IoT, MVNOs, Enterprise Mobility, Blockchain and other services for global clients on both the supply-and-demand side.

Ian represents Africa Analysis in Europe and serves as a conduit for European telecommunications firms interested in African markets, and for African communications service providers requiring independent, relevant insights into the Technical, Economic, and Competitive forces shaping their markets.

When he is not enjoying the acoustics at Hamburg’s Elphi, the world’s newest and best concert hall, he can be found walking in the High Tatras or cycling along Europe’s waterways.

Theo fulfils the role of a Telecommunications Financial Analyst and a Consultant, with an electrical engineering background, at Africa Analysis. The combination of financial / business analysis and engineering skills, coupled with extensive ICT industry experience, provides Theo with the ability to critically understand the ICT environment.

Theo’s career of over 25 years in the ICT industry and the consulting environment enable Theo to work on strategic projects from a holistic perspective. Theo is mainly involved in projects with a financial analysis or costing angle to them, due diligence projects, and business analysis projects with technical characteristics. Over the past dozen years or so Theo’s focus has been on regulatory costing, activity based costing and LRIC modelling, working mostly on the wholesale aspect of costing. The range of engagements has seen Theo work for some of the largest telecommunications operators in Africa, as well as for national regulatory authorities.

In his time away from ICT analysis and cost modelling, Theo potters around with technology and gadgets and reads (anything from non-fiction to science fiction).

Lynne Stevens

Lynne is responsible for managing the content on the online portals and that of the reports produced for clients by Africa Analysis. She is also involved in undertaking research on projects done by Africa Analysis.

Lynne has spent most of her professional life working in the publishing industry as an editor for various publications, mainly in the IT field.

Other than her love for the English language and IT, Lynne is a UCI-qualified cycling commissaire and spends most of her free time involved in the sport or doing community work.

Lehlohonolo Mokenela

Lehlohonolo is a telecoms analyst with over 8 years market research and consulting experience in the ICT sector. He has been involved in a range of projects across Sub-Saharan Africa covering geographic expansion, lead generation, due diligence and competitor bench-marking.

While Lehlohonolo has a covered a broad range of ICT markets, his main focus areas include telecoms infrastructure, mobile money and cybersecurity.

Prior to joining Africa Analysis, Lehlohonolo was initially an ICT research analyst and subsequently a consultant at Frost & Sullivan South Africa. He has also previously assumed a number of roles in finance and accounting at Vodacom Lesotho, including treasury and financial reporting.

Lehlohonolo also enjoys hiking, football and reading about the rest of the continent.

Derrick is involved in delivering projects on the telecoms sector and helping organizations make fact-based decisions to grow their businesses. He tracks technology innovation to identify emerging services and technologies that have the potential to impact and potentially disrupt existing business models.

Prior to joining Africa Analysis, Derrick spent over 10 years working in various capacities, as an Analyst & Consultant. During this time, he worked for various organisations that include Frost & Sullivan and International Data Corporation (IDC). His previous roles involved helping telecom operators, equipment vendors and other stakeholders understand key trends shaping the telecoms and IoT environment in the Southern Africa, Africa and the broader META (Middle East, Turkey and Africa) region. He gained invaluable experience in delivering strategic global projects, highlighting key insights and making strategic recommendations to both local and global organizations.

Derrick holds various qualifications from the University of Cape Town, that include a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management. He enjoys watching cricket, football and tennis during his spare time.

 

Nozi Dikgale

Nozi is an experienced Market Researcher and Media Analyst. She has more than 10 years of experience in various roles at Media Agencies and companies, including Media Monitoring SA, Media24 and Mindshare. Over the course of her work, she has gained a deep understanding of Research Data Sets such as TGI, Clear Decisions, Effective, Measure, AMPS, RAMS, TAMS, as well as Addynamix (Nielsen’s Analytical Tool).

Nozi has a wealth of knowledge in ICT and tracking Telecoms. In her role as Media Analyst at Africa Analysis, she tracks industry developments in both the media and content spaces. Her research includes media audience measurement and campaign management tools, product development, pricing, acquisitions and network development.

Nozi has extensive experience in undertaking market trends, share of voice analysis and delivering presentations. She holds a BA in Media Studies and Industrial Sociology (University of Witwatersrand) and a Media Management Certificate from AAA School of Advertising. Nozi is currently studying with IMM Graduate School of Marketing- BBA in Marketing Management.

Apart from her passion for brands, media and research. Nozi takes key interest in how brands evolve and how Market research and insights play a pivotal role in business. She enjoys cooking and draws her inspiration from her family.

Thabo Bapela

Thabo worked for five years at Ipsos, first as a Research Assistant and later as a Junior Research Executive responsible for tracking customer satisfaction when servicing or buying a vehicle with a dealership, checking data collection updates daily and providing feedback to data collection, the project team and Account Manager. Ensuring research basics and disciplines are implemented and upheld, including: logic checks, checklists, task instructions, document standards and policies and procedures.

Thabo spent over three years working as a Media Analyst at Monitoring South Africa , gaining extensive media research skills through media monitoring and analysis. As a Media Analyst he ensured that daily data capturing was done to create a database, whilst allocating prominence factors to each client specific media item and compiling monthly media analysis reports and sending them to relevant clients.

While completing her tertiary education Afeefah gained working experience at Frost & Sullivan through an internship under the job description Research Associate and then later as a Research Analyst responsible for market research across various industries in Africa with a focus on the Chemicals, Foods and Material industry.

Market research entailed market analysis, market sizing, supply and demand research, competitive analysis, highlighting various growth opportunities and market trends for the purpose of geographic expansion. While working on consulting projects Afeefah has gained experience in the South African ICT market specifically focusing on lead generation in the IoT market and trends in the Telecommunications industry.

An academic background in environmental and water sciences coupled with the dynamism of the ICT industry has led to a strategic interest in the nexus between IoT, agriculture, environmental conservation, sustainability and innovation.

Afeefah holds various qualifications from the University of Western Cape including a MSc. in Environmental & Water Sciences. In her spare time she enjoys watching rugby, exploring the outdoors and trying new things.

Carlize Aploon is a Research Intern who is part of the Africa Analysis Leanership Programme. Carlize is responsible for supporting the analysts across a wide portfolio of work.

Carlize is a History Honours graduate from the University of Stellenbosch. She has previously worked as a freelance Digital Content Writer, where she released a number of online publications. Her work on online platforms such as The South African, has enabled her to hone her skills as a writer and researcher and grow within the field.

Carlize is currently completing a Business Administration NQF level 3 course through Africa Analysis.

Carlize has always been interested in history, especially with regards to how it affects present as well as future conditions. In her spare time, she can be found travelling, watching sport and meeting new people.

Oriely Mashimbye is a Research Intern on the Africa Analysis Learnership Programme.

Oriely is responsible for supporting the analysts in various telecoms projects.

He is an Accounting Diploma graduate from the Vaal University of Technology. Prior to joining Africa Analysis, Oriely worked for Globeflight and Mercury Couriers as an Inhouse Controller, where his responsibilities included data capturing, resolving customer queries, following up on forwarded shipments and compiling delivery reports.

He is currently completing a Business Administration NQF Level 3 course through Africa Analysis.

Oriely spends his free time with his siblings and watching documentaries.
